Went in to have my engine block heater checked out because it was tripping the breaker every time I plugged it in. I had an 8am appointment, that was booked 4 days in advance because they were all booked up. After checking in the customer service rep (csr) said they would be getting to it within a few hours. I planned on waiting because it was going to be a quick diagnostic but the csr said they wouldn't be getting it in right at 8am. (Why have an 8am appt, I thought?) The csr said it would take about a half an hour to check out the wiring and look for a short. He offered a courtesy ride, and I accepted. (This was the only nice thing I encountered, a ride). At noon I got a text saying they had info and had checked my fluids, etc., which wasn't needed and I didn't request it. I called the csr and he said the wire looked fine to the block heater so there must be a short inside the block where the heater is. Estimate was about $550. I thought that was high so I called another place and their cost was $400. I booked an appt with them. I went to go pick up my truck at Matt's and the csr said it would be $86.23. I asked how that was broken down. He said $79.99 for diagnostics, $3.99 for shop supplies and $2.25 for Hazmat. I said, "I thought you said it was going to be a half an hour of labor?" He said, "I told you this morning it would be $79.99 diagnostics." I said, "no, you didn't, you said it would be half an hour of labor. But, it doesn't matter anymore I'll just pay it." So I paid $86.23 for them to look at a 3 foot power cord to make sure there wasn't any breaks, and their estimate was $150 more than a nearby competitor. Wow! I didn't get angry (life is too short for that), I just paid and left. It was the first and last time that I will go there. Too bad, because I have 7 cars and trucks with my business. Just thought I would let people know.
Lance, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Our reviews are very important to us and our business as we love hearing feedback from our customers. We are sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with us. We strive to provide all of our customers with nothing short of an exceptional, 5-star experience. We’d like to take a moment and go over your main concerns with your visit with us. In regards to your appointment time, we strive to get our customers in as soon as it is convenient for them, in this case, 8 am for you. We do this because then we can have enough time to provide the customer with a ride to work or home so they don’t have to sit and wait and so we have time to begin our work on the customer’s vehicle with proper time to inspect, research and perform testing. We also want to meet our customer’s expectations on when they need to know an answer by, which in this case was noon for you and we were able to get you an answer by 11 am. We would also like to take the time to explain to you on the estimates you mentioned you did not ask for; we provide these as a free service to you on any vehicle that comes into our shop to let you know if there are any safety concerns or maintenance concerns the customer should be aware of. There was no charge for this service and we do apologize if that was not communicated to you when you checked in. In regards to your frustration about the charge and the estimate for repair, the charge was explained to you when our Service Advisor, Chris, checked you in. One of our ASE Certified Technicians was going to spend anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour into testing the block heater and the wiring going to the plugin to determine the source of the failure. We do know that this was mentioned to you as we always want to be upfront with our customers about costs, so there are absolutely no surprises. Our owner, Matt was also up front in the showroom and overheard Chris mention the $79.99 charge for this service, along with him offering you a ride. With the estimate for repairs, we would like you to know that we do not discourage price shopping or second opinions but would like you to understand what we offer with our repairs. This repair would come backed with a 3 year, 36,000-mile warranty. We also would give you one year of free roadside assistance. We also would be having the repairs by one of the most talented ASE Master Certified Technicians in the Fargo/Moorhead area. These are things we pride ourselves on being able to offer to you with your service. We strongly believe that price is what you pay where value is what you receive. Now, these things may not have been explained to you fully and we also apologize for that. Now we can understand if our price may have been higher than others and we encourage you to find out what you will be receiving with your estimate of $300. If the price is what you are concerned with for the repair, then maybe we would not be the best fit for each other as we are not the cheapest shop in town. If you are looking for a quality repair with a leading warranty, then we are absolutely the best place in town for that. We have tried to call you and reach out to you several times with no response, and we would be happy to discuss this further with you, so please call our facility at 701-478-3838. Thank you again for your review.
